At iFixBasements, sump pump replacement means more than swapping one pump for another. A single pump is a single point of failure, so I design a sump system with three pumps in one sealed pit: a primary pump, a second pump that takes over if the first fails or can’t keep up, and a battery backup for when the power goes out.
I personally inspect and design the fix; a licensed & insured certified dealer crew installs it. The estimate is free, you get a written proposal the same day, and no-money-down financing is available. I serve Rockland and Orange counties in New York and Bergen and Essex counties in New Jersey.

Problems this system solves
A basement floods when the sump pump fails, can’t keep up, or loses power. This system is built for every one of those moments:
- Your only pump dies. A second pump sits a little higher in the same pit and takes over automatically.
- A heavy storm outpaces one pump. Both pumps run at the same time, moving double the water for as long as it takes.
- The power goes out or a breaker trips. A battery-powered backup pump keeps pumping, with its own charger, and an alarm lets you know it’s running.
- Silt and sediment clog the pump. The pumps sit on stands above the bottom of the pit, out of the mud that washes in.
- An open sump hole. A two-piece airtight lid keeps moisture, odors and insects out of your basement, keeps things from falling in, and still opens for service.
- A plumbing leak with nowhere to go. A built-in floor drain lets water down into the pit without letting damp air come back up.
- Water rising with no warning. A water alarm sounds like a smoke detector before your floor gets wet.
- A pit too small for real protection. A twin liner holds all three pumps, which a standard round sump liner can’t.
Three pumps, one sealed pit
- Primary pump. Set lowest, it handles the water day to day.
- Secondary pump. Set a bit higher. It takes over if the primary fails, and runs alongside it in a heavy rain.
- Battery backup pump. Set highest, it runs on its own battery when the power is out or a breaker trips.
Replacement or a new install?
If your basement has never had a sump pump and water shows up after storms, you need an install, and often an interior drain to feed it. If you already have a pit and pump, it’s time to replace it when:
- It runs constantly, or cycles on and off every few minutes
- It’s loud, rattles, or hums without pumping
- It’s old, or you don’t know how old it is
- The pit overflowed in a heavy rain
- It has no backup pump and no battery backup
- The discharge line is cracked, freezes, or dumps right next to the house
Not sure which you need? See sump pump installation and interior drainage, or have me take a look.
How I handle it
- I look at the pit, the pump and the water. How often it runs, where the water comes in, and where the discharge goes.
- I explain why it’s happening. In plain English, and whether a pump alone fixes it or the water needs a drain first.
- I ask what you want fixed. Then we price every line together, and you can take out anything you’d rather do yourself.
- A dealer crew installs it. I personally inspect and design the fix, then a licensed & insured certified dealer crew installs it.
Sump pump replacement questions
Why isn’t one sump pump enough?
A single pump is a single point of failure. Most basements flood because that one pump failed, couldn’t keep up in a heavy rain, or lost power in the storm. A second pump and a battery backup cover each of those.
What happens if the power goes out?
The battery backup pump takes over and keeps pumping on its own battery, and an alarm lets you know it’s running.
Can you replace just my pump?
Yes. I’ll look at the pump, the pit, the discharge line and how much water you’re dealing with, and tell you plainly whether a simple replacement is enough or the system needs more.
How much does sump pump replacement cost?
I can’t give you a number without seeing the basement. It depends on the pit, the discharge route and what the water needs. The estimate is free, and no-money-down financing is available.
Who installs it?
I personally inspect and design the fix, then a licensed & insured certified dealer crew installs it.
